FAQ: Add-in Subversions and Your License

Published on 12 May, 2019 by Milos Gregor

In this post, I want to inform you about the Reshape.XL add-in subversions and their relationship to the licenses you purchased.

Each time the add-in is updated, I increase the version number. This versioning is done using two numbers - the main and secondary number, for example, 1.2 (actual add-in version). The main number indicates a fundamental change in functionality. This can be adding a new functions or making a fundamental change to the application interface. The next fundamental change brings the 2.0 release.

The secondary number (after the dot) indicates a change that can be marked as small - e.g. changing the name of a function or its properties, fixing a bug or making a small improvement to the application’s interface. In this way, the add-in was updated to version 1.1 and 1.2.

If you have purchased an Annual License, you can switch to the new version automatically, because your license is time-limited. The difference is if you use Perpetual License. In this case, you have purchased a permanent license for the current add-in version, for example 1.1. You can’t upgrade to a higher major version - for example, 2.0. However, you can upgrade to a higher subversion, such as 1.2 or 1.3. These updates improves or fix your 1.x version and are provided automatically.

So choose a license according to your needs. Although I have several ideas for major updates, I want to focus on improving the current functionality this year. These changes will be gradually released under subversion 1.x. If you have any comments about the current version or idea for other features, please feel free to contact me. I’ll be grateful for every feedback.
